Society for Medieval Archaeology Student Colloquium (8-9 noviembre, Cardiff, UK)

12/6/12 .- http://cardiff.ac.uk

In 2012 this successful annual event will be held in the Humanities Building at Cardiff University between the 8-9th November. Over the two days there will be paper sessions, a poster session, a keynote lecture, a wine reception and a book display.

The Society for Medieval Archaeology Student Colloquium provides a platform for postgraduates and early career professionals to share their research. The Colloquium presents papers from across the medieval period (5th-16th centuries AD) and from all geographical areas. Papers are not restricted to archaeology and interdisciplinary papers with a broader medieval significance are especially encouraged. There is also a prominent poster session and, although presentations will be restricted to postgraduates and early career professionals, the organisers welcome posters from all medievalists.

Although the Colloquium is designed as a forum for postgraduates and early career professionals to disseminate and discuss their research we encourage undergraduate students and established academics to attend.

Call for Papers:

We are accepting proposals for paper and poster presentations until Friday 7th September 2012. Please note that paper presentations will be 20 minutes in length with a 10 minute discussion for each session.

For further information please see the ‘Call for Papers’ and ‘Abstract Submission Form’ located under useful documents on the right hand side of this webpage.

Registration:

Attendance at the Conference is free for all student members of the Society. If you are not a student member then you are liable to pay the registration fee of £20.

Please note that the fee to join the society as a student is only £20. More information regarding joining the Society is available under useful documents listed on the right hand side of this webpage.

Information on how to register for the Colloquium will follow shortly.

Accommodation and Travel:

Cardiff has an array of quality (and cheap!) accommodation, including hotels, hostels, guest houses and caravan parks, available within walking distance of the Humanities Building where the Colloquium will be hosted.

You are welcome to book your own choice of accommodation but we have provided a brief list in the useful documents section located on the right hand side of this webpage.

Cardiff is easily accessible from anywhere in the UK or overseas. It is served by several train stations and there is a national coach station located in the centre of the city. Cardiff has its own international airport and the city is in close proximity to Bristol International Airport. Birmingham, Manchester, Heathrow and Gatwick airports are easily accessible to Cardiff by train or coach. Cardiff is located in close proximity to several ferry ports and if you intend to travel by car it is easily reached on the national motorway system.

If you are intending on staying in Cardiff on the night of 9th November please note that there is an autumn international rugby match scheduled for Saturday 10th. On a match day Cardiff is a really exciting place to be with an exhilarating and friendly atmosphere however the city centre can become extremely busy with demand for accommodation and public transport significantly increasing. Therefore, if you intend to stay on the weekend, it is advisable to book your accommodation and plan your travel in advance.
