Call for Assistant and Reviews Editors

Arquelogía Pública Journal is currently seeking applications for the following positions:

4 Assistant Editors

The workload for the journal is increasing year by year and it is becoming difficult for two people only. This is why we open this call for Assistant Editors, believing that four extra hands will make this initiative enjoyable for all.

1 Reviews Editor

Reviews are an essential resource to know what is happening in Public Archaeology, so we think it would be good to have a Reviews Editor to seek for interesting content for publication.

AP is a peer reviewed, open access journal devoted to Public Archaeology. Currently in its fourth year, and having already published 3 volumes, AP Journal seeks to improve its publication process. Up to now, we have done our best to offer you some of the most interesting and quality content in the field of Public Archaeology. This year, we reached 1.500 registered users and 25.000 unique visitors, almost doubling traffic and followers in all our social networks.

Nevertheless, since the journal is growing - just as the field is growing - attracting more authors, readers and followers, the workload is increasing year by year and publishing on time has become a difficult task. We aim to start indexing the journal and, thus, we need to maintain our quality standards, setting clearer protocols and becoming more effective. That is why growing the team is essential.

Duties:

Assistant Editors report to the Editors. They collaborate with them, copy-edit and handle papers, ensuring that all material is indeed ready to be published. The workload will not be much (approximately 1 full article and 3 short pieces/person per volume).

The Reviews Editor reports to the Editors too. He/she will look for new titles and events to be reviewed in the journal, contacting editorials, authors and organizers. The workload will be on average eight pieces per volume.

Requirements:

Assistant Editors: Ideally, candidates should have at least a BA degree in some Humanities discipline, be proficient in English and have basic copy editing skills. No previous experience is needed but an eye for detail, motivation and an interest in Public Archaeology are important. Candidates will be asked to copy-edit a sample article or an excerpt.

Reviews Editor: Ideally, candidates should be studying or working in Public Archaeology, preferably coursing a MA degree or a PhD related to the topic. Good communication skills are essential in order to find and compile the materials of the section.

Both positions require a commitment of at least one volume (publication date for vol. 4 is set for September 2014), and papers are being received and edited throughout the year. Work will be performed online from their location, part-time with no fixed schedule.

Compensation:

All positions with AP Journal are performed on a voluntary basis. The journal does not charge for publication or use, so the little income from donations is used for the maintenance of the server and the production of a short print for the archive and donors. Assistant and Reviews Editors will receive a paper copy of the journal and references. The experience is great and the successful candidates will be able to enhance their CV in the editorial sector. Communication with reviewers and authors will also give them an opportunity to get to know colleagues worldwide and immerse in the world of Public Archaeology. Moreover, positions are flexible, meaning that your life, studies or work always come first.

How to apply:

Send us a letter of interest (less than 500 words) and your CV to jasarqueologia@gmail.com. Please identify the title of the position for which you are applying as the title of your email. We will respond promptly.

Deadline:

Applications will be received until the positions are filled, so if you are willing to apply, do it as soon as possible
