4th International Conference on Remote Sensing in Archaeology
(ICRSA4)

Beijing - China

October 24th to 26th, 2012

The Conference is co-organized by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), UNESCO,
State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China, Ministry of Housing and
Urban-Rural Development of China (MOHURD), and National Natural Science
Foundation of China (NSFC), and hosted by the International Centre on Space
Technologies for Natural and Cultural Heritage (HIST), a centre under the
auspices of UNESCO, and the Centre for Earth Observation and Digital Earth
(CEODE), CAS.

This year's event is one in a series of conferences. The 1st International
Conference on Remote Sensing in Archaeology was organized by the Chinese
Academy of Sciences in Beijing and hosted by the Joint Laboratory of Remote
Sensing Archaeology (JLSRA) in October 2004. In that context an
international team of experts was created in order to promote
multidisciplinary activities in remote sensing archaeology around the world.
In December 2006, the 2nd International Conference was held in Rome,Italy.
In August 2009 the 3rd International Conference was held in Tiruchirappalli,
India.

The theme of the 4th Conference is "New Era of Earth Observation on Natural
and Cultural Heritage". We plan to take this conference into new territory
with a focus on world heritage and cutting-edge space technologies for
monitoring, documenting, and preserving world heritage. Advances in sensor
systems, data availability, social technology, and other innovations have
matured and converged to make 2012 a particularly exciting time in this
field. There has never been greater potential for conducting productive,
beneficial scientific research and developing highly-engaging promotion and
education programmes. It is a valuable opportunity to advance the field
internationally.

On behalf of the hosts, it's my privilege to warmly welcome all the experts,
policy-makers, administrators and students from around the world who are
engaged in the conservation of heritage by using space technologies to join
us in Beijing for a memorable occasion.

All participants who are interested or working in the field of earth
observation on natural and cultural heritage are strongly encouraged to
submit a research paper and develop proposals for an oral presentation. The
abstracts will be evaluated for consideration for presentation in the
specified sessions- either as an oral presentation or as a poster paper. The
instructions on abstract submissions for authors will be provided online.
The conference proceedings will be available at the conference. Excellent
papers selected will be published in SCI, EI journals, or the special
edition of "Journal of Remote Sensing".
