International Workshop Archaeology from Aerial Photographs 18th – 22th February 2013 University of Bamberg, Germany
This ground-based aerial archaeology workshop is targeted at students and professionals alike. It will introduce participants to uses of aerial photographs for archaeological research and conservation. Interactive sessions will guide participants through ways of seeing information on aerial images. This will enable them to use their acquired experiences from fieldwork etc. to understand what can be identified on aerial photographs.

Participants will also be taught use of AirPhoto SE to transform and georeference oblique and vertical aerial photographs. Through use of a GIS, they will complete small projects in an area of Bavaria. For this purpose, participants are asked to bring their own laptop with a GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS etc.).
The workshop is restricted to 18 participants. To register, send an email containing your name, contact details and background (student, professional) to the workshop organisers. The registration deadline is 31 October 2012. The course fee is 100 €, to be paid upon confirmation of registration.
A small number of Archaeolandscapes Europe (ArcLand) grants are available to support students and scholars to take part at the workshop. More information can be found at the ArcLand website. Grant applications must be submitted by 15 November 2012.
The teaching team, Dave Cowley (RCAHMS, Edinburgh), Johanna Dreßler (University of Bamberg) and Rog Palmer (Air Photo Services, Cambridge), are current or former committee members of the Aerial Archaeology Research Group (AARG) and have taught other European workshops on aerial archaeology.
