3rd International Landscape Archaeology Conference 2014
Rome, Italy, 17th– 20th of September 2014

Call for Abstracts

Standing in the tradition of the previous Landscape Archaeology Conferences held in Amsterdam in 2010 and in Berlin in 2012, LAC 2014 will again provide a platform for archaeologists, cultural and earth scientists and researchers from neighbouring disciplines to present and discuss results from the broad field of geo- and landscape archaeology.

Hosted by the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome the LAC 2014 conference will cover the following five broad themes in Landscape Archaeology: Landscape Archaeology and Contemporary Society, Integrated Approaches in Landscape Archaeology, Mediterranean Landscape Archaeology, Social Dimensions in Landscape Archaeology and Digital Landscape Archaeology.

The LAC 2014 organisation is calling for abstracts that will fit in one of the following thirteen sessions (visitwww.let.vu.nl/lac2014rome for the abstracts of the sessions below):

Abstract submission

We are now looking for conference abstracts, which consider the 2014 sessions listed above. Abstracts will be judged by the session conveners in order to assign an oral or poster status to the presentation. Abstracts can be sent until the 1st of April 2014. Abstracts should be short (300–500 words), clear, concise and written in English with correct spelling and good sentence structure.

You can submit an abstract:
a) By filling out the submission form available on the website of the VU University Amsterdam (www.let.vu.nl/lac2014rome: click on submission form LAC2014 in the text) and sending it to lac2014rome@vu.nl.
b) By providing the following information in a Word file and sending it to lac2014rome@vu.nl:
· Name and surname;
· Affiliated university or institute;
· Work address and telephone number;
· E-mail address;
· Selected session number (1-13) and first three words of the session title (as mentioned above) in the subject line;
· The abstract text.

Authors may decide to submit their abstract with a preference either for a poster presentation or for an oral presentation. However, there is no guarantee that an oral preference can be realized. Please note that LAC has the tradition that the majority of all presentations at the meeting will be posters. Posters are a vital part of the LAC community, also in Rome in 2014.

General Programme of the Conference

The conference will start with an opening ceremony including a keynote lecture on the evening of the 17th of September 2014. Afterwards, we would like to invite you to an aperitivo. On the 18th and 19th of September 2014 oral and poster presentations will take place. On Saturday, the 20th of September 2014, an excursion will be organised.

The 3rd International Landscape Archaeology Conference will take place at the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome (KNIR), which will host the congress in close collaboration with the Research institute for the heritage and history of the Cultural Landscape and Urban Environment (CLUE) at the VU University Amsterdam. The opening session will take place in the auditorium of the Faculty of Architecture of the Roman Sapienza University, which is situated in the vicinity of the KNIR.
